Every year it baffles me how unnoticed the early portion of the college basketball season goes. The average fan doesn't seem to have a pulse on things until after the New Year, once conference play is underway. By average fan I don't just mean the casual observers, but plenty of folks who are fully immersed in the season once February and March hit. The last couple of months of the season are as good as it gets in sports, but that doesn't mean the early schedule should be ignored. With a glut of interesting non-conference matchups and tournaments, it's not too late to wake up and enjoy the entirety of the season.
For those of us with a rooting interest in Wisconsin sports specifically, we should be embracing any and all college ball. The Pack are done folks, let that shit go. UW will cap off a highly disappointing football season in a few weeks, but shouldn't command much more than those few hours of your life in the meantime. Let's instead stop fuckin around and look at UW bball. Leading off the Big 10-ACC Challenge in grand fashion, UW escaped a furious rally at Va. Tech with a victory behind a last second shot by Trevon Hughes. Here's the call from Matt Lepay, one of the best around:
He did not get an offer from UW. I am not sure why. Maybe grades, I did hear a story of a recruit that was texting and answering his phone during a meeting with Bo and he pulled his scholarship I am not sure if it was Luciuos but it was around the same time that one would have been offered. But its not even Lucious, who about
No offers to either but good old Bo offers one to this guy in the same class:
Mike Bruesewitz http://wisconsin.scout.com/a.z?s=193&p=8&c=1&nid=3613326
As look down the bench I see a gang of 6-7 6-8 white guys who are slow, cant jump and ride the pine JP, Kevin ring a bell? But he wins so I cant hate that much, as long as you like making it to the tourney and losing in the first or second round you are happy. Me, I want us to be athletic enough to beat UConn.
Yeah, P Dubbles got it right, Wilson and Maymon would be more of my concerns. I don't think the quantity of in-state guys going elsewhere is the problem, because we get most we need to. But Wilson in particular is a big miss. I imagine Bo wasn't big on the idea of waiting til Spring '09 to hear Wilson's decision and I can understand that.
Still though, until they at least get to the Final 4 under him they'll be a few murmurs about lacking the athletes to hang with the likes of UCONN. Yet, we got a pretty athletic squad this year, which will be bolstered by Ryan Evans next year. If we got a shot at UCONN in March I think the results will be much better. That game was more about lack of experience against pressure than the athletes to me.
As for the slow white guys, I won't contend that too much, but Kevin was a walk-on and Bruesewitz sounds like a decent athlete. In general though, if you look at the front court rotation next year, Leuer is a good athlete, but there ain't too much of that beyond him.
Wow, all this hate on Kevin....You forget him stepping up as a Frosh. Give him a chance to prove himself, he can hang with any forward in the Big 10 defensively, and will drink you under the table.
But I can't front....I want black guys with tattoos and daddy issues.
I'm glad we have been able to win consistently under Bo but it's time to take the next step...Go all out for one year and then rebuild for 3.

So tell me why Milwaukee native Korie Lucious isn't on the team? Bo is losing too many in state recruits.
